Fair Board Director Responsibilites:
Fair Board members are elected from the membership of the Olmsted County Agricultural Society to provide for planning, conducting, production, and evaluation of the Olmsted County Free Fair. This task includes securing resources, establishing policies, and employing staff during the contract period for the annual fair.
Duties and Responsibilities
These items do not include all possible tasks and do not limit the assignment of tasks in this position.
Attend Fair Board meetings and other meetings as required.
Work as a team to make decisions in annually producing and promoting the Olmsted County Free Fair.
Approve and be accountable for an annual budget; approve all acquisitions of funds; review and approve all reports and audits.
Design and schedule events and programs for the Olmsted County Free Fair. Establish fees and assure that adequate staff and safety procedures are in place for the public.
Approve all staff positions, job descriptions, salaries, hiring and terminations during the contract period of the fair.
Approve the fair committee structure and approve all appointments of superintendents.
Serve on committees when assigned. Must be responsible to supervise and execute areas assigned to them during the year and fair week.
Obtain sponsorships for fair events, exhibits, and other special areas where they would be appropriate.
Researches needs and makes recommendations for equipment purchases and/or improvements.
The Executive Committee is made up of the four elected officers of the fair board.
Makes recommendations to the board on various issues of concern as they relate to the Olmsted County Fair.
Makes decisions when it is impossible or impractical to meet as a full board. Every effort should be made to gather input from all board members.
The full board can move that the executive committee make a decision on issues that have been delegated to them.
